Systematic Literature Reviews: Best Practices and Essential Tools

Image
Shri Ram

A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) is a rigorous and structured method of identifying, evaluating and synthesizing existing research on a specific topic. Unlike traditional narrative reviews, an SLR reduces bias by adopting transparent, reproducible procedures, thereby ensuring comprehensive coverage and credible insights from the available body of knowledge. The importance of an SLR lies in its ability to generate evidence-based insights that inform academic research and policy-making. It also helps in identifying research gaps and future directions while supporting scholars in building robust theoretical and methodological foundations for their studies. To conduct an effective SLR, researchers can use a variety of tools at different stages of the process. These tools enhance efficiency, minimize errors and strengthen the overall reliability of systematic literature reviews and making them indispensable for advancing high-quality research.

Mapping Lived Experiences: Unlocking Stories in the
Human Library

Image
Syamili

The In this session, you will explore the Human Library, a unique approach where real people become “living books” and share their lived experiences to spark dialogue and reflection. These personal narratives offer deep insights into mental health, gender, cultural diversity, and equity. Many living books have faced prejudice, stereotyping, or unique challenges, making their stories powerful tools for fostering empathy and driving social change. The presenter will share her own research-informed encounters with Human Library stories, along with curated examples that highlight the Methodological and transformative potential of experience-driven inquiry. As knowledge-sharing practices evolve, the Human Library demonstrates the critical importance of human-centered, experience-based approaches in community-building. In an era increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence, these stories underscore the irreplaceable value of human connection, empathy, and shared experiences in shaping inclusive societies. If you are interested in the intersection of narrative inquiry, social change, and human-centered research, this session will show why listening to lived experiences is both methodologically rigorous and transformative—and why it matters for social science research today. For LIS students interested in human-centered librarianship, social inclusion, and transformative information practices, this session will provide practical insights and research-informed strategies for applying lived experiences in professional practice.
