National Librarians' Day was celebrated on August 12, 2025 at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) to honour the life and work of the Father of Library and Information Science in India, Dr. S. R. Ranganathan. The event saw active participation from library and information science students, faculty, research scholars and staff who came together to pay tribute to Ranganathan's profound contributions to the field.
The celebration served as a platform to reflect on Ranganathan's enduring legacy, particularly his Five Laws of Library Science which remain foundational principles for modern libraries. Students and research scholars shared their perspectives on the important role of libraries and librarians in academic life. They spoke about the importance of libraries as hubs of knowledge not just for physical books but also for digital resources, research guidance and intellectual discourse. The faculty members inspired the students by discussing how librarianship has transformed into a dynamic and essential profession that supports education, research and social development. The event highlighted the role of library professionals in a knowledge-driven society and celebrated their commitment to ensuring equitable access to information for all.
